The Counselling Skills Diploma is the gateway to Counselling Training. During the course, we will look at how listening is the key to everything we do as humans. You will be able to develop your use of many other counselling skills and work with your peers to use these. The course will take you through a brief history of the development of counselling theories and their implications on modern practice. We will also spend time discovering ourselves. This is a very interesting and stimulating course, it is challenging in terms of personal development work.
The course is either pass or refer, to pass you have to demonstrate competency of all the units.
You can progress on to the ABC Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Skipton and Leeds). This then allows you to practice as a Counsellor.
If you hold a first degree you can progress to University and undertake a PGCE Dip in Therapeutic Counselling (Leeds, Preston, Salford and York). This also gives you the right to practice as a Counsellor. All of these courses are two-year part-time courses. From here you can progress to Degrees in Counselling. If you don’t hold a first degree but want to follow a University route, then you would progress to a two-year part-time Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Skills, then on to the HE Dip in Therapeutic Counselling. (total four years part-time attendance then qualify).
