The GCSE English course runs from September to June, two hours per week. There are two final exams at the end of the year in early June but there are opportunities to practice exam techniques informally in class and more formally in mock assessments throughout the year. During the course, you will explore a range of fiction and non-fiction texts, analyse writers’ techniques, compare texts from different eras and produce both non-fiction and creative writing pieces. You will also improve your spelling, punctuation and grammar and build confidence in speaking and listening skills including group discussion and debate and giving presentations.
To be able to take the GCSE course, students need to be able to demonstrate working at a Grade 3 (old Grade D) standard at the start of the year. This will be assessed at the start of the course.
