During this one-day course, you will learn how to update and upcycle an old fashion item into something new to wear. Using basic dress-making skills, you will be shown how to design and create a new item from old clothing. Utilising old clothes and existing fabric, you will learn planning techniques, as well cutting skills and how to adjust hems. Be money-saving savvy with learning new skills and repurposing an old favourite into a new one!
You will need enough old items of clothing together with scraps of fabric to make something new. You may wish to bring in your own old clothes, or purchase second-hand items from a charity shop. You will also need colour co-ordinated thread for this project. Ideal items to make are a pair of jeans and 2m of cotton fabric into a simple skirt, men’s shirts into a simple sun top, or a denim jacket into an apron.
You may wish to bring your own sewing resources to the course (i.e. your own shears etc).
Basic sewing skills and how to use a sewing machine are essential. This course is suitable for improvers.
