Overview

Using a commercial dressmaking pattern you will create your own garment. With support and help, you will follow the instruction from the pattern and learn the techniques required to complete a garment to fit yourself or someone else. You will also be able to create a range of samples, including finished seams and hems for dressmaking and soft furnishings.  The course emphasizes hands-on practical machine experience. The choice of what you want to make is yours.

You will learn how to control and use a domestic sewing machine to produce a garment or set of garments including where required a series of sewing samples and stitch methods. Building your portfolio of skills you can look at how different seams are produced, create tucks and darts, add bias binding, insert a zip and create a decorative edge. The list is endless; you will develop your existing skills and look at new ones that you can use in one of our other courses on offer.
