Confirm your competency in a supervised role that supports pupils’ learning in a school environment. The qualification enables you to develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to work in an entry-level role within the school workforce, directly supporting the teaching and learning of pupils in all school settings.

This qualification is ideal if you are already working or volunteering in a learning support role in a school environment and want to develop your knowledge and skills or confirm occupational competency. There is a requirement of 4 hour’s assessment in a real work environment so you must have a placement (either as a volunteer or as a member of staff, for at least 100 hours) in a school environment and therefore you will need DBS certification.

This is a vocational qualification with 180 guided learning hours (plus at least 3 – 5 hours per week home study and 3 hours in placement). Within this time you can expect to be involved in formal learning activities which will include classes, tutorials or student presentations, self-evaluation, supervised practical work in the workplace and assessment where an Assessor is present.

You will also develop a wide range of personal transferable skills, such as teamwork, communication and self-assessment skills, which will benefit you as you progress through your career.
