Overview

You will be required to attend College one evening per week and gain some relevant experience in the health and fitness industry to achieve this NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym-Based Exercise).

The first 5-6 weeks focus on the theory of anatomy and physiology. The last part of the course will be based in the gym where you will learn about the different equipment, plan a gym session for your client and then instruct your client to use the equipment. We will use the gym at Craven Leisure Centre for the practical elements of the course.

  • Health, Safety & Welfare in a Fitness Environment
  • Principles of Exercise, Fitness & Health
  • Know how to Support Clients Who Take Part in Exercise & Physical Activity
  • Anatomy & Physiology for Exercise

You will also complete two specialist gym-based units:

  • Planning Gym-based Exercise
  • Instructing Gym-based Exercise

Your knowledge and skills will be assessed through written work and by planning a gym session for a client which you will then instruct and deliver.

Equipment Info

Ideally you should use the gym on a regular basis, be familiar with the equipment in the gym and have a basic knowledge of your muscles and anatomy and physiology.

This course is quite intense and therefore some previous knowledge is an advantage.

Progression

You could also progress onto the Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training.
