This course is designed to provide an overview of the different types of painting media available and how to use them. Can you mix water with oil? What happens if…?

When starting to paint, understanding the different types of pigments, media and varnishes and what they do, can be overwhelming. Which should you use and why? Not only are the pigments daunting, but also how should you prepare your surfaces? This course will go through how to mix and prepare paints. We will also look at different types of thinners and extenders to mix with paints. The course will also cover how to stretch and size surface supports from canvas, paper, linen and board.
